On Tuesday, in a meeting held at Singapore, the decision was
taken that the Asia Cup will be hosted by Bangladesh. Bangladesh is going to
host it for the 3rd consecutive time. Asia cup is a five nation
regional tournament featuring Pakistan, India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. One
associate nation will also participate in the Asia cup.
Asia cup will begin on 24 Feb 16 and the final is scheduled
to be held on 6 Mar 16. Interestingly, world T20 is scheduled to begin just
five days after the final of the Asia Cup. The upcoming Asia Cup is going to be
the first edition in which Twenty20 matches has been included.
It was Pakistan’s initiative to nominate Bangladesh to host
next edition of Asia Cup. Without any objection, rest of the members agreed. India
was not keen to organise as it is already hosting the World T20 tournament and
have tight schedule.
The associate nations competing to make place in Asia Cup
are Afghanistan, Oman, UAE, and Hong Kong. The qualifying tournament for
associate nation will be held in last week of November.
