The Secret Behind Friendship Day

I was talking to one of my beautiful friends and discussing about my previous blog post. She asked me that today is friendship day then why you didn't write something about that? Well, her question ignited a thought process inside me that how this friendship day started? Why we need a day for friends as we spend so much time with friends? When I become curious about something then I do anything to find details about it.

After doing some research I came to know a very interesting fact about friendship day. I don’t know how many of us, even know the truth behind friendship day.

Friendship day is celebrated every year on the first Sunday of month of August. It is not just day of friends but it signifies the relationship of family, lovers and friends. People started celebrating in the year 1935 when United States Congress felt the need to dedicate a day for family, friends and lovers.

Due to First World War, people of that time were devastated. There was no trust between family members, friends and lovers which was a perfect atmosphere to ignite another battle. In order to reduce this threat and to strengthen the human feelings, friendship day was made official by United States.

Well after seventy eight years, we can see the success of friendship day. Now, friendship day is spread in many countries from Japan to Canada. Many countries accepted it officially and if it is not adopted by government of few countries then their society do celebrate this interesting and day of encouraging friendship.

Recently Indian Government started a program to issue a unique identification to every citizen of the country which is now popularly known as Aadhar Card in India.
