If today I say that India was in a position
to win 1962 Indo-China War then you may laugh on me. But the fact which I am
going to discuss with you will put some light on the factors which were in
favor of India during 1962 Indo-China War but India failed to take advantage of
it. Following factors were in favor of India and tactical mistake from
government of India as well as Armed Forces resulted into a blood bath.
1.
China’s army in 1962 was very
weak and not in a position to win the war against fully prepared Indian Army.
As an example, China lost a war against Vietnam in 1979 in which Vietnam
thrashed China. India was also in same position but Indian Army was not
prepared for such a big attack.
2.
In the year 1962, China faced
highest decrease in production of food grain and a major famine. That means
that if fully prepared Indian Army had taken advantage of this weakness of
China then the victory was with India. China was not in a position to feed
their army in the war situation.
3.
China was not in a position to
supply important items to their army in Indo-Tibet border. If India had taken
full support of Indian Air Force and had destroyed the thin supply line of
China to Indo-Tibet border then China’s Army was not in a position to fight the
war.
It was India’s chance to take the advantage
of these weaknesses of China but unfortunately India thought that China was a
trustworthy friend and trusted the Chinese Government’s statements issued. 1962
Indo China war is one event which India always regrets.
