Make Wine At Home


Learning about making wine at home is helpful and interesting. Grapes, elderberries, blackberries, apples, peaches, and many fruits are used as ingredients in homemade wines.

To make wine at home you need to  understand basic fundamental stages. These fundamental stages of making wine are as follows:
1.  Flavor extraction
2.  Fermentation
3.  Bottling

Flavor Extraction:
Few wines are made from pure concentrated juice of grape. In this type of wine, little or no sugar is added. But sometimes it happens that homemade wine maker uses some other fruit which has stronger flavor and need to be diluted with water and sugar. Sugar gets dissolved in the yeast and the yeast is added to start the fermentation process. You can purchase fruit or juice. But if you purchase juice then you will reduce the effort and time needed to squeeze the fruit to bring out the juice.



Fermentation Process:
The most important aspect of homemade wine making is fermentation process. Fermentation happens due to the action of yeasts, fungi, bacteria and mould.
In wine making fermentation refers to the use of yeast and its action to dissolve the sugar. Sugar is food for yeast. Yeast dissolves sugar and produces alcohol. Initially yeast grows in large number and then start dissolving the sugar. Extraction and fermentation work together in wine-making .

Bottling and Aging:
The easiest stage of homemade wine making is bottling and Aging. Bottling and aging is easiest stage but it needed to be done carefully. After completion of extraction and fermentation fill the wine in the bottle and allow its aging. Most of the time new wine doesn't taste good; this is because its flavors need more time to mellow down. In such cases, store the wine in the bottle and allow its aging. There is saying ‘’old wine taste good’’.

Equipment:
There are various equipment to complete each stage of homemade wine making. Initially make use of basic equipment of wine making but as soon as you get enough experience you can go for more sophisticated equipment of wine making.
Following equipment you need to purchase to make wine at home:
•         One plastic bucket of two gallons with air tight lid.
•         One plastic wooden spoon.
•         One large aluminium vessel to boil the ingredients.
•         One mesh sheet.
•         One vessel for fermentation with airtight lid.
•         One funnel.
•         One bottle with rubber cork
•         Plastic tube for purpose of siphoning.
•         A bottle brush for cleaning your equipment
•         Electric heater, hydrometer, and juice extractor
Ingredients to make wine at home
The major ingredients to make wine at home are:
1.       You need fruits, canned fruits or juice. Juice is better option than fruits because it reduces the effort and time.
2.       Water is needed to dilute highly concentrated juice.
3.       Yeast is important and is used for converting sugar into alcohol.
4.       Pectin Enzyme
5.       Grape which will be used as astringent compound for tanning.
6.       Sugar
7.       Potassium Sorbate
8.       Yeast nutrient
9.       Campden tablet

 It is easy to learn the art of making homemade wine by understanding the fundamentals of wine-making which is used from ancient time.
