Indian Air Force has been at the peak of anti-naxalism
operations in Chhattisgarh from past several years. Indian Air Force has
supported Central Armed Police Forces from the blue sky and followed the rules
of engagement set by the government earnestly. But the big question is, did Indian Air Force killed its own people in anti-naxals operations?
However, recently several media agencies had misled the
people by projecting the air strike practice of Indian Air Force at Bastar as
the shift of strategy by government of India. Media projected that Indian Air
Force Helicopters were used to carry out strikes against our own people.
Indian Air Force and Ministry of Defence has clarified the
rumour spread by the media and quoted that such irresponsible news has
tarnished the image of Indian Air Force. It has also threatened the operations
carried against Naxalite in Bastar region.
Following are the highlights of
the press statement issued by Indian Air Force regarding the Anti-naxal
operations.
1. IAF helicopters are deployed in
logistics support of Central Armed Police Forces.
2. Helicopters are fired upon several
times which have led to injuries to airmen on board.
3. Indian Air Force never carried
retaliatory attacks against such actions.
4. Airmen on board had fired only in
self-defence following strict rules of engagement.
5. Air to Ground firing from
helicopters is a part of routine training.
It is very well known fact that
for any training exercises carried out by Indian Armed Forces, prior clearance
from local authorities is taken and no civilian presence is entertained. Firing
on civilians during the training exercises is not at all possible and never
done by Indian Army or Indian Air Force. We hope, the media will understand the
responsibility and will not defame the organisations such as Indian Air Force.
