As the sun was intensifying, it was unblemished to me: if I need
to stay alive, I had to cover as much distance as possible. I had crossed most
of the towns in the night, and I was moving towards Bhiwadi a small town in Rajasthan.
I was exasperated and at around 0900 hrs I took break. Now, I had to make a
choice, either to follow highway or go for my way.
I took my iPhone which I had kept for crisis usage. Switched
it on, and to my utter frustration so many messages on my WhatsApp messenger
from my friends. First thing I did, I opened google maps and switched it on 3D
view. As there was no 3G internet connectivity obtainable, I had to wait, so I decided
to start giving reply to my friends. As soon as the map was ready, I started
looking for cross-country displacement, and luckily I discovered one. As the
terrain was mostly plain, it was evident that I would not face any kind of
problem. So in whole thing, I wasted twenty minutes.
I in full swing with the left knee grieving moved towards my
aim. Well now I knew, no pain no gain. And with such kind of bad philosophies
revolving in my head, I kept heading towards my goal.
During the cross-country move, I passed farm fields, where
the movement was difficult compared to smooth surface of the road. But my high
ankle shoes came into play, to provide me perfect ankle support to move on such
a rough terrain.
Soon I bypassed rewari and bhiwadi and by this time sun was
burning in the sky. It was afternoon, around 3, when I was quite near to Gurgaon
and I decided to take break. I had decided to cross Gurgaon-Delhi border, and
hire a cab. I was thirsty, and I saw a pond nearby. I had no option, as I was
out of water and no hope in this industrial area which started from Bhiwadi. I drank
the water which was as important as life. To my surprise cloud covered the sky
and I felt I am blessed by the rain gods.
I started my moment, once again referring the google map for
further displacement. Now I had no water and ration with me. Any wrong step,
and I would land up in trouble. I was away from city which I left behind. I was
closer to Gurgaon. I put my one leg ahead of other, and repeated this process
and started marching ahead.
Around 1730 hours I entered Gurgaon. Huge buildings of IT
companies and Infrastructure Company. A straight road taking me ahead towards
the toll gate which represents the Delhi-Gurgaon border. I was tired, lost lots
n lots of fluid from the body. Salt had created a layer on my skin. No more
sweat coming out of the tiny pores of my body. Shoes lost their black color and
it was covered with dirt. I had to finish this.
Finally, after walking 150 Kms, I reached Delhi-Gurgaon
border. Soon I got a taxi, and I headed towards my guest house. I was in need
of rest. The feeling was great, I had done something which I was planning to do.
I traveled 150 kms on foot with my complete luggage. Now it was time to rest
and I am not in a mood to repeat same kind of adventure, at least not in
summers. I hit best Japanese restaurant in the city, and had good couple of days in New Delhi. But the experience I will cherish for rest of my life.
fuel to drive you long ;)
